I for one loved the sequel I thought it was great and I usually never watched the first one without putting on the second right after I don't see the problem with this movie that other people had with it

As usual, I found myself thinking: Did Siskel watch the same movie as Ebert? HAL didn't try to stop them from launching a probe to Europa. He suggested they stick around and find out what was happening to Jupiter. With respect to "disappointment" about the ending: The "aliens" essentially created a solar system within the solar system (physically impossible by most accounts, but it's a movie FFS). That's pretty wonderful if you ask me.

The greatest of all films. The murder plot was ridiculous and never would have worked, but Hitch in his genius got away with it-a true magician at the height of his talent.

"The film is shot very effectively in black and white" is a bit of an understatement.

The look and setting of this film was brilliant I absolutely loved the concept of a prison planet but all they had to do was just not kill off Hicks and Newt right away, I think Hicks should have sacrificed himself protecting Ripley and Newt from the dog Alien before Ripley then sacrifices herself to kill the Queen leaving Newt as the last remaining survivor. The idea of parent figures protecting a child from a planet of murderers and rapists as well as an Alien running around is actually incredibly compelling and could have been even more intensive than the second movie in the lengths they go to protect a child.

"let other people talking while Clint squints, drinks, and listens..." But he only drinks at the end of the film... like that's the whole point of the film... how did you miss that, jeez...

Siskel and Ebert, sitting on their asses, critiquing the work the artist who's actually in the arena. This may not be a great film, it felt contrived and vaguely allegorical, but I found it engaging, the score by Morricone is great, and it's certainly nothing that any movie critic could ever pull off.

2:19 This sounds like this film would be a prime candidate for Ryan George's PITCH MEETING series: "Why don't the Russian soldiers just shoot out the plane tires to stop it from taking off?" "Listen sir, I'm going to need you to get ALL the way off my back about that!"😄

This is why I never take Ebert's opinion as anything. Too bad this movie killed Carpenter's career. Would've loved if he sicked around and was given more interesting and well funded projects.

I think PTA is brilliant, starting with Boogie Nights, an incredible film. I was really enjoying Magnolia. The stories, most of the same actors from boogie nights. This was really working, till the end. It was ruined. I understand what PTA was trying to do,but come on. What would have been an amazing movie, he messed it up in the end.. I wonder what those actors thought of the ending?

I'm Salvadoran and my family escaped the war in 1980, at that time I was 7 years old and I remember we had to drive across the country to reach the capital and take an airplane from there. On that road trip across El Salvador we saw blown-out bridges, decapitated bodies in ditches, burning buses and trucks, and armed men whom we didn't know if they were army or rebels or death squads. It was horrific. I will never forget that I saw about 40 human heads impaled on a fence post and my mother trying to cover my eyes as we drove past.

Everybody knew going into it that this could never live up to Kubrick's film. Given that, it was still a good sequel on its own merits. It also helped explain the original film, while still carrying its own plotline.
